Introduction

Moxa’s successful DA-681 and DA-683 rackmount substation computers are now steadfastly serving numerous power substations. The IEC 61850-3 certified DA-681 was designed to service a large variety of IO ports, while the DA-683 provides PTPv2 (IEEE 1588v2) with a high performance Atom D510 processor. These exceptional solutions have provoked many customer requests for a rackmounted substation computer that combines the exceptional IO capacity and variety of the DA-681 with the computing power of the DA-683, and now Moxa is pleased to unveil our response: the DA-685. DA-685 series computers also feature the Intel Atom D510 processor, giving you all the computing power you need in a reliable, fanless design that features the same variety and number of the DA-681’s IO and networking interfaces, all alongside the Precision Time Protocol, version 2, and with an additional EMC Level 4 certification. Designed as an all-purpose substation solution, these DA-685 computers are capable of serving virtually any role in a smart grid environment, regardless of what environmental or technological demands are required. DA-685 industrial computers excel in a wide array of power automation applications. The DA-685 series is based on the Intel x86 processor and supports VGA, 6 Gigabit Ethernet ports, 2 RS-232/422/485 and 6 RS-485 serial ports, CompactFlash, and USB. The computers come standard in a 19-inch, 2U high form factor, and the Intel Atom D510 processor gives them enough punch to perform demanding industrial tasks without consuming a lot of power. The DA-685 computer are pre-installed with Linux, Windows Embedded Standard 2009, or Windows Embedded Standard 7 operating systems, providing a familiar environment for developing sophisticated application software.
